About us

The Catalonia – Aotearoa New Zealand Association was established in 2018 by a diverse group of Catalans residents in Aotearoa and Kiwis with ties or interests in Catalonia and its culture. We are a not-for-profit organisation registered as an Incorporated Society (#2710931).

As it is established in our rules (pdf), the main purposes of the association are to promote and strengthen links between Catalonia and Aotearoa New Zealand; to promote public awareness of Catalan culture, language and traditions in Aotearoa New Zealand as well as Kiwi and Māori culture in Catalonia; to exchange experiences and work cooperatively to support minority languages; to defend and support human rights and democratic values; and -without taking any political position- to defend and support the peoples’ right to self-determination and work to eradicate repression and any other form of domination of peoples.
